Description:
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) provides grants to foreign citizens not residing in Italy and Italian citizens living abroad (IRE)* for the academic year 2023-2024 in order to foster international cultural, scientific, and technological cooperation, promote Italian language and culture, and support Italy’s economic system in the world (according to Law 288/55 and its subsequent changes and additions). Grants are available for study, training, and/or research programmes at Italian Higher Education Institutes, both public and legally recognised.

Scholarship value/duration:
Tuition Fees
Grantees may be excluded from paying enrollment and tuition fees, depending on the policies of each university. Exemption is not allowed for courses in Italian language and culture, which require enrollment fees.
Health and Medical Insurance
MAECI will provide grantees with health and medical/accident insurance for the length of the grant. Insurance will not cover incidents caused by pre-existing medical or pathological issues.
Financial Grant
The grant is 9,000 euros and will be paid in three instalments to a personal current account registered in his or her name with an Italian bank. The scholarship for Italian language and culture courses is 3,000 euros, which is paid in one instalment. The scholarship might last 3-9 months, depending on the sort of education. Renewals are only offered to applicants who demonstrate adequate academic progression.

Age limits
Applicants for Master’s Degree/Higher Education in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM) Programmes/Italian Language and Culture Advanced Courses must have reached the age of majority and not be older than 28 years by the deadline of this call (born after June 14th, 1995), with the exception of renewals. Applicants for PhD programmes must have reached the age of majority and not be older than 30 years by the deadline of this call (born after June 14th, 1993), with the exception of renewals. Applicants for Research Projects under Academic Supervision must be of legal age and not older than 40 years by the deadline of this call (born after June 14th 1983).
Language skills and proficiency
To join an Italian-taught course, applicants must produce a certificate demonstrating their proficiency in the language. The minimal level necessary is B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Candidates who took an Italian-taught course at the University may submit a language certification provided by a language teacher from the University department.
To enrol in an English-taught course, applicants must produce a language certificate demonstrating their ability in the English language. The minimal level necessary is B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Self-certification may be recognised for candidates from countries where English is an official language and who are applying for courses taught exclusively in English. Proof of Italian fluency is not necessary for English-only courses..
Applicants for Italian language and culture courses must show a certificate demonstrating their fluency in Italian. PhD programmes and research projects under academic supervision do not require confirmation of language competency.
