A massive wildfire in Carolina Forest has continued to spread, leading to more evacuations overnight. The fire, which has been growing in size, is now covering approximately 1,200 acres. Authorities are working to contain the flames, but as of now, it remains uncontained.
Expanding Fire and Evacuation Orders
Horry County, S.C. officials confirmed that the wildfire began near Covington Drive and has rapidly expanded. Initially reported at 600 acres late Saturday night, the fire doubled in size by the following morning. Due to the increasing threat, emergency responders have ordered evacuations in multiple neighborhoods.
Although no injuries have been reported, residents are urged to stay alert. Authorities stress that even those who are not currently under evacuation orders should monitor updates and be ready to leave if needed.
Neighborhoods Affected by the Carolina Forest Wildfire
Evacuations have been issued for various streets and neighborhoods, and residents are directed to seek shelter at the Carolina Forest Recreation Center. The following areas are impacted:
- Spring Lake Community: Blackberry Lane, Pennyroyal Court, Alyssum Court, and Bluebonnet Court.
- Waterford Plantation Community: Harvest Drive, from Moonbeam Court to Tidelands Court.
- Covington Lakes Neighborhood: Covington Drive, from Summerhill Drive to the community center.
- Walkers Woods Neighborhood: Arrow Wood Court, Indianola Court, and Tuckahoe Road (previously reopened but now back on the evacuation list).
- Indigo Bay, Summerlyn, and Farm Neighborhoods: Evacuations will stay in place until at least daybreak.
- Avalon Neighborhood: Residents are advised to remain evacuated.
- Wyandot Court: Initially evacuated but later cleared for residents to return.
Shelter and Emergency Assistance
There is currently no estimate for when residents can return home. As of now, 52 evacuees have checked into the shelter at the Carolina Forest Recreation Center. Initially managed by the county, the shelter has now transitioned to the American Red Cross.
The Red Cross is seeking monetary donations to purchase essential supplies for those affected. However, they are not accepting clothing donations at this time.

For pet owners needing assistance, the VCA Palmetto Animal Hospital on Highway 501 is providing boarding services. Those in need can contact them at 843-903-1900. Additionally, Horry County officials have stated that they will do their best to accommodate pets at the Carolina Forest Recreation Center.
