Young Sheldon Expertly Handled George’s Funeral
Feeling remorse for having to do arguably one of the most painful sitcom moments in recent memory is understandable, but without it, they would not have been able to do The Big Bang Theory universe’s best episode — George’s funeral.
The first half of Young Sheldon’s final hour was spent with the Coopers dealing with the loss of their patriarch, which led to his send-off. It was a masterclass in achieving a balance between comedy and drama. While there were some amusing moments, they were handled expertly so as not to diminish the gravity of the tragedy, all while allowing emotional moments to breathe.
Meemaw’s speech during the service perfectly encapsulated the whole episode. It was heartwarming and funny but also heartbreaking as she paid tribute to the life and legacy of her son-in-law.
The Big Bang Theory did address serious issues, such as the deaths of Howard’s mother, Mrs. Wolowitz, and Professor Proton, but not with the same level of care and quality that Young Sheldon did with George’s tragic death and subsequent funeral.
Meemaw’s speech at the service perfectly captured the entire episode. It was heartwarming, funny, and heartbreaking as she honored her son-in-law’s life and legacy. In retrospect, Lance Barber is grateful that Young Sheldon gave him the opportunity to have one of the most memorable deaths on television.
