Young Man Dies After Superstitious Ritual Orchestrated by Father
Over the Past days the news of a young man, named Chikwado Eze, who tragically lost his life after being subjected to a controversial ritual led by a local native doctor at the request of his father got people talking. The ritual, rooted in superstition, involved burying Chikwado alive for 90 minutes in a bid to “fortify” him before he embarked on an overseas journey.
Chikwado, whose name means “fortified by God,” as explained by Charles Awuzie, had recently obtained a visa and was preparing for an international trip. Before his departure, he returned to his village to seek the blessings of his father, Mr. Eze. However, what was meant to be a farewell visit turned into a fatal encounter with misguided beliefs.
According to reports, Mr. Eze, convinced that his son’s success abroad would require spiritual protection, took him to a native doctor. It is alleged that the native doctor instructed Mr. Eze to bury his son alive, assuring him that this act would protect Chikwado from harm, even shielding him from law enforcement if he encountered trouble overseas. The promise of success stories from other young men swayed Mr. Eze, who agreed to the dangerous ritual.
Despite the grave risks, the ritual proceeded as planned. Chikwado was buried for 90 minutes, with the native doctor performing rituals to invoke protection. When they finally unearthed him, Chikwado was unconscious. Instead of rushing him to the hospital, the native doctor attempted to revive him through further rituals. However, Chikwado’s condition worsened, and he tragically passed away.
The community was shaken by the news, and local authorities were quickly involved. Both Mr. Eze and the native doctor were arrested and are currently being held in police custody. They now face charges of manslaughter, pending further investigation.
Community members expressed outrage over the incident, calling it a senseless loss of life caused by outdated superstitious practices. Local leaders have urged families to abandon harmful traditions that endanger lives and instead embrace modern medical practices.
