It was another intense day in court. When the defense asked Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, “If I have a letter to deliver to you, where would it be?”—his answer hit hard: “DSS dungeon.”
He’s been in that dungeon for six years.
During his testimony, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu told the court that he was forced to write a statement. He said he was under serious pressure—duress. Then he explained how he was blindfolded, chained, and moved from Lagos to Abuja by the DSS. He described the entire journey as terrifying.
Once he arrived in Abuja, they locked him underground. The place was dark. The light was dim. He couldn’t see anyone. It was total isolation.
He also talked about a serious nosebleed he had. Blood was dripping as he walked. DSS officers noticed and brought a doctor. That doctor warned them to give him airtime—just one hour—or he could die.
Kanu didn’t stop there. He claimed that the videos played in court were edited. Key parts were missing. The threats from DSS officers were cut out.
He also revealed that he asked for a lawyer again and again. But no one came. He was denied legal help until he got to Kuje prison later in 2015.
Then the prosecution asked:
“Was your detention approved by a court?”
Kanu’s answer? “No.”
“Did DSS contact your lawyer after you gave them the names and contacts?”
Kanu replied, “They never even asked.”
The judge has now adjourned the case to 29th May 2025 at 12 noon.
