The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he is not afraid to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if he chooses to do so. The former governor of Rivers State made this statement during a recent interview with journalists.
Wike Explains His Position on PDP and APC
In the interview, Wike addressed his decision not to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 election. He explained that his choice was based on principles and his perception of fairness within the party.
“At my level, I openly said I would not support Atiku’s presidency because there was no fairness, justice, or equity in PDP. I didn’t hide my stance,” Wike emphasized.
He criticized those who present one view during the day and change their narrative in private.
“Nigerians know me. If I say I will do something, I will do it. If I won’t do it, I won’t,”
he added.
Wike stood firm on his decision not to back Atiku. “I have no regrets about my choice. I made it clear that I wouldn’t support Atiku, and I remain unapologetic about it,” he said.
He clarified that his relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not based on any promises or agreements to join APC. “I never discussed joining APC with the President or anyone else. Nobody should assume I am afraid to make such a move,” Wike stated.
Addressing Speculations
Wike also dismissed any notion that fear was stopping him from joining APC. “If I want to join APC, I will. Who in PDP would intimidate me? I fear no one,” he declared confidently.
This statement comes amid speculations about his political alignment following his recent actions and comments that many perceive as favorable to the ruling party.
