Preparing for the NYSC Camp
Are you planning to enlist in the Nigerian Youth Corps (NYSC)? A memorable and significant aspect of your service year is NYSC camp. You can make the most of your camp experience and ensure a seamless registration process by following this guide.
What to anticipate from the camp
- Orientation: NYSC camp is a three-week program designed to help you meet new people, experience cultural events, learn useful skills, and engage in drills.
- Early Arrival: To give yourself more time for registration and orientation, get to camp early.
Important Information about Registration
- Final Year ID Card (Two Photocopies and the Original): Obtain this official ID from the educational institution. IDs from departments are not accepted.
- Statement of Result (Original & 4 Photocopies): Your graduation is attested to by this document (B.Sc. or HND). Foreign students bring your certificates. Graduates from polytechnics bring both ND and HND grades.
- Medical Students: Medical students bring proof from the appropriate Nigerian board and documentation of your training completion (doctor, pharmacist, etc.).
- NYSC Call-up Letter (Original & 4 Photocopies): This important document is sent to you after you register online. Do not laminate it.
- NYSC Green Card (Original & 4 Photocopies): After registering online, print this page; do not laminate it. Green cards and call-up letters both require color printing.
- Eight copies of recent passport photos It must have a white or light background.
- Get two copies of the medical fitness certificate from an army clinic or government hospital in Nigeria.
- Foreign-trained PCMs: Bring all documents submitted during online registration.
Simple Guide to NYSC Camp Registration
- Step 1: Camp Gate
- Present your certificate of medical fitness.
- Enroll in the NCDC’s required COVID-19 test (requires a negative result for entry).
- Keep the test slip.
- Your bags will be electronically and manually inspected for forbidden materials.
- Step 2: Inside the Camp
- Locate the hostel of your choice and pick up a mattress.
- Choose your bed space.
- Bring the following paperwork to the registration unit:
- Gate slip
- Original call-up letter
- Original school certificate or result statement
- School ol ID card
- Your state registration number can be obtained by visiting the ICT table.
- Obtain your meal ticket and a numbered tag, which you should wear at all times as your camp ID.
- Step 3: Banking
- There will be bank representatives on hand to assist you in opening a new account for your camp allowance.
- Locate the designated bank and complete the form to open an account.
- Step 4: Meeting Your Platoon Officer
- Pick up your official NYSC attire along with your file from the NYSC kit.
- Look at your tag number. Your platoon number is indicated by the final digit (e.g., a tag ending in 9 indicates platoon 9).
Suitably Packing for NYSC Camp
The following ideas will help ensure that your time at camp is comfortable:
- Wear: Rubber slip-on shoes and white tennis shoes (preferably cork).
- Hygiene Essentials: Antiseptics, toiletries, towels.
- Bedding can include blankets, wrappers, pillows, sheets, and pillowcases.
- Dining: A cup, spoon, dish soap, and food flask.
- Stationery: Pens, papers, and a file jacket.
- Tech: Flashlight/chargeable lamp, phone charger, and power bank.
- Other items: cash/ATM card, white T-shirt, treated mosquito net medication bag, underwear, tiny waist bag, white shorts and socks, and locks.
Important Notice: Sharp objects, TVs, laptops, and hair clippers are all strictly forbidden. At the conclusion of camp, these will be returned and kept at the gate. It is best not to overpack because the camp store typically sells forgotten necessities.
