Fans of Squid Game had high hopes that Seong Gi-hun (Player 456) would bring down the deadly game from the inside. But after two intense seasons, it’s starting to look like another character might take on that role—and surprisingly, it all makes perfect sense now.
Gi-Hun Tried to Change the Game—But Failed
In Squid Game season 1, Gi-hun survived the brutal contest and returned in season 2 determined to fight back. Many fans believed he would join the masked guards to sabotage the operation from within. Instead, he came back as a player once again, trying to lead a rebellion.
Sadly, his plan didn’t work.
By the end of season 2, Gi-hun got very close to reaching the Front Man’s control center. But it was a trap. The Front Man, disguised as Player 001, stopped him in his tracks.
Now, the Squid Game season 3 trailer shows Gi-hun being sent back to the dormitory—still a player, and still in danger.
Who Might Replace Gi-Hun? Meet Kang No-eul
While Gi-hun’s story seems to be going in circles, another character might be stepping into the hero role: Kang No-eul, a North Korean defector introduced in season 2.
No-eul joined the guards not to support the game, but to earn money to find her daughter, whom she was forced to leave behind. She’s the first guard shown with a truly emotional backstory—and she may be the key to ending the deadly contest.
Jun-hee’s Baby Could Change Everything
The Squid Game season 3 trailer ends with the sound of a baby crying—a strong hint that Jun-hee, who was pregnant during season 2, gives birth in the new season.
This moment could shake No-eul deeply. She has always shown care and compassion, especially toward children. In season 2, she bonded with a sick girl, the daughter of fellow player Park Gyeong-seok.
Seeing a baby inside the game’s horrific environment may push No-eul to act. Her own longing for her daughter could give her the emotional drive to take real risks.
Why No-eul Has the Perfect Cover
While Gi-hun is well-known and constantly watched, No-eul moves in secret. She wears a mask, blends in with other guards, and keeps a low profile. If anyone can strike at the Front Man and the VIPs without being noticed, it’s her.
The only thing she needed was a reason to fight for something bigger than herself—and Jun-hee’s baby might be it.
Can No-eul Be the Real Hero of Squid Game?
Gi-hun may still play an important role, but his mission has already failed once. No-eul, on the other hand, is set up perfectly to strike from the inside. She’s been overlooked. She has the skills, the cover, and now, likely, the motivation.
Squid Game season 3 could finally show us the hero we didn’t expect—but desperately need.
