The federal government recently announced that the student loan application portal would be formally launched on Friday (today), May 24, 2024.
Nasir Ayitogo, Media and Public Relations Lead for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), made the announcement last Thursday in Abuja.
Following this news, NELFUND has issued clear instructions on how students can apply for the loan, which is available through the application online today.
The student loan provides financing for tuition and maintenance at authorized higher education and vocational training institutions in Nigeria.

NELFUND provides step-by-step instructions on how to apply for a student loan.
Step 1: Visit https://nelf.gov.ng/
Step 2: Click “Apply Now.”
Step 3: Click “Get Started.”
Step 4: To proceed, answer the questions on this page and click “Yes, I am a Nigerian.”
Step 5: Verify your educational details. To see if your school has uploaded your information, select it from a drop-down list and enter your matriculation number.
Step 6: Click “Verify with JAMB” and enter your JAMB information on the screen.
(Students whose NIN has not been registered with JAMB will see an input field to enter their NIN for validation.)
Step 7: Set up an account by entering your email address and password. You must confirm your password in the fields provided and then click “Create Account.”
Step 8: Click the email verification link that was given to your inbox. This completes the process of creating an account.
How to Fill out Your Profile
After successfully registering, log in by clicking the “LOGIN” button.
Step 1: Login using your email address and password.
Step 2: Click the “Proceed to Contact Details” button.
Step 3: Update your contact information to include your current phone number, entire residential address, state, and local government region of residence. Then, select “Proceed to Educational Details.”
Step 4: Update your educational information by selecting your higher education institution and entering your matriculation number. Then, select “Proceed to Account Details.”
Step 5: Enter your BVN, then select your bank and enter your account number. Click “Save changes” to finish your profile.
LOAN APPLICATION
Step 1: After logging into the application, click the “Request for Student Loan” button in the upper right corner of the house or loans page.
Step 2: If you want a maintenance loan, check the box and click *continue.” If you only need the institutional charge, click the “Continue” option.
Step 3: Upload any supporting papers. The acceptance letter is required, but the student ID and institutional invoice are optional.
Click the “proceed” button after selecting the policy and declaration checkboxes.
Step 4: Read the loan overview and tick the boxes for both the terms and conditions and the GSI mandate, then click “Submit Application.”
Step 5: Click on the “loans” option to see the progress of your application.
