Why Pastor Rob Was not on Young Sheldon Season 7 Explained

Pastor Rob’s absence from Young Sheldon in Season 7 was for the better.

Since there were so many plots to address, Chuck Lorre and his team couldn’t devote any time to narratives that didn’t play into The Big Bang Theory canon or contribute to a satisfying ending for the Coopers in Texas.

Pastor Rob only attended Medford High School once. He never returned to promote George’s team after that, despite his continued presence on the show. The last time Pastor Rob visited Young Sheldon was when Cece was born.

Mary was no longer employed at the church, so they did not have much time together. Nonetheless, he sought her out to discuss his potential move to Arkansas. It was his way of assessing where she stood in their relationship. It is unclear whether he moved, but he never bothered the Coopers again.

Admittedly, it was an unusual way to conclude the Young Sheldon character’s arc. Even if the writers had wanted to bring him back in season 7, the Big Bang Theory prequel may not have had the opportunity to do so. Young Sheldon had a much shorter year than usual.

Because there were so many plots to address, Chuck Lorre and his team were unable to devote any time to narratives that did not fit into The Big Bang Theory canon or contribute to a satisfying ending for the Coopers in Texas. Pastor Rob did not fit into any of the developments.

Ultimately, it was best that Pastor Rob did not return in the show is final season. Season 7 of Young Sheldon focused on repairing George and Mary’s marriage before his predetermined death.

Although George’s unexpected death was heartbreaking, it occurred at a time when he was finally able to reconcile with his family. If Pastor Rob had been involved, Young Sheldon would not have been able to complete this arc properly.
