Winnie Harlow is preparing for a walk down the aisle!
The 30-year-old model is now engaged to NBA player Kyle Kuzma, who plays as a small forward for the Milwaukee Bucks. Their engagement took place on February 13.
The couple shared their exciting news on Instagram on February 18. Their post included several photos of them together on a private plane, with Harlow proudly displaying her sparkling engagement ring in multiple shots.
A Romantic Proposal in the Sky
In an interview with Vogue, the couple revealed how the proposal happened. They were on their way to the Turks and Caicos for a planned vacation. However, Kuzma had something even more special in store. He arranged for a private jet, decorating it with red roses, balloons, chocolates, and champagne.
At first, Harlow thought all these romantic gestures were just for Valentine’s Day. She had no idea a bigger surprise was waiting for her.
Once they boarded the plane, Kuzma asked her to sit beside him. Then, he started reading a heartfelt poem he had written for her. As he read, a fleeting thought crossed Harlow’s mind: “This would be the perfect moment for a proposal.” But she quickly dismissed the idea, not wanting to spoil a possible surprise.
Her instincts turned out to be right. Kuzma ended his poem with the question, “Will you marry me?” Then, he revealed an 8.5-carat oval-cut diamond ring—something he had spent three months designing, all without asking Harlow for any input.
“I never asked her what kind of ring she wanted,” Kuzma admitted to Vogue. “I wanted to create something that truly represented her—something elegant, timeless, and simple.”
Family Celebration
After arriving in the Caribbean, Harlow was eager to share the good news with her loved ones. However, her calls didn’t go as expected. Her sister didn’t answer, and her mother quickly ended the call, saying she was busy.
Soon, everything made sense. When Harlow and Kuzma reached their villa, they were greeted by both of their families, who had gathered to celebrate with them.
The festivities included an elegant beachside dinner, followed by a dazzling fireworks display. Now engaged and looking forward to their wedding, Harlow shared with Vogue that they both felt “over the moon.”
Their Love Story
Harlow and Kuzma first connected online during the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Harlow revealed that Kuzma had actually messaged her on Instagram back in 2019—but she never saw the message.
When they finally started talking, their bond grew quickly. They spent months chatting almost non-stop, which led Harlow to move from New York City to Los Angeles to be with Kuzma, who was then playing for the L.A. Lakers.
By April 2020, they officially became a couple. Just weeks later, they were spotted together in public, and by June, they confirmed their relationship on Instagram.
Although they faced occasional breakup rumors, their love remained strong. In August 2022, Kuzma spoke to PEOPLE about their relationship, explaining that they often inspired each other—especially when it came to fashion.
“We always exchange ideas,” he shared. “[Winnie] has a great sense of style. That’s one of the things that really connects us—we both love fashion, art, and clothing.”
A Grand Romantic Gesture
During a GQ Couples Quiz in February 2023, Kuzma revealed the lengths he went to just to see Harlow at the beginning of their relationship.
“The pandemic had just started, and flying was risky,” he recalled. “So I told her, ‘You need to fly private.’ It was our first time meeting, and I really wanted to see her. The safest option was to arrange a private jet. And that’s how our love story began.”
Love and Commitment
In July 2023, Harlow proved her devotion to Kuzma in a lighthearted way. When the couple attended an Usher concert, she hilariously jumped onto Kuzma’s lap to avoid being serenaded by the singer.
Usher took the hint and jokingly said, “Okay, you chose,” before walking away.
A month later, Harlow took things a step further. She got a tattoo of Kuzma’s name inked in cursive behind her ear, making her love for him a permanent part of her.
