A dramatic video has captured the terrifying moment a Delta Air Lines plane landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport, burst into flames, and flipped over on the snow-covered runway.
Shocking Footage of Fiery Crash
New footage shared online shows Delta Flight 4819 engulfed in flames as it touches down in severe weather conditions. Strong winds, reaching 40 mph, whip through the air, creating a chaotic scene.
As the aircraft skids across the icy ground, bright orange flames erupt from the back. Thick black smoke soon follows, billowing into the sky.
The terrifying video shows the plane tilting to one side before its wing snaps off. Moments later, it flips over completely, landing upside down.
A close-up shot captures the smoke surrounding the fuselage, making the aircraft nearly invisible as it vanishes behind the dark cloud. Other footage from a distance shows the moment the plane hits the ground, immediately catching fire before rolling over.
All Passengers Evacuated Safely
Despite the intense flames and heavy impact, all 80 passengers and crew members onboard managed to escape. Authorities confirmed that 18 individuals were hospitalized, but none sustained life-threatening injuries.
Emergency crews arrived within minutes, rushing to the wreckage. The aircraft, still partially on fire, had lost part of its wing and tail during the crash. Firefighters worked quickly, spraying water to extinguish the flames as the overturned plane lay still on the runway.
Cause of the Crash Still Unknown
Officials have not yet determined what caused the plane to flip over. According to Todd Aitken, the Fire Chief at Toronto Pearson Airport, the runway was dry, and no crosswinds were present at the time of landing.
The wreckage of the Bombardier CRJ-900LR remained on the snow-covered tarmac as firefighters battled the remaining flames. Passengers, still in shock, hurried away from the scene while emergency teams took control.
This accident occurred just after a powerful winter storm left nearly nine inches of snow at the airport. Crews had been working throughout the night to clear key runways before the crash.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the Delta aircraft ended up flipped on its back. The incident marks the most serious commercial plane accident since the January 29 crash at Ronald Reagan National Airport, which involved an Army Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines flight, resulting in 67 fatalities.
Experts are now examining all possible factors that led to the terrifying crash, hoping to find answers soon.
